Do
you need a Criminal Record Check to access a visa?.
Are you
applying for a visa to emigrate or work abroad and need a statement
as to the contents of your criminal record ?
At this
point in time the Criminal Records Bureau does not
produce Disclosures for this purpose. The appropriate Disclosure
for this purpose is a 'Basic Disclosure' and is available via our
sister company, www.CheckYourRecord.co.uk
This form of record is the required document for most visa applications.
However those people applying for visas to the United States should
follow the procedure below:
In order
to access documentation appropriate for visa applications to the
USA you should approach your local UK police station and complete
an application form which will provide you with a 'Person Record:
Prosecution/Criminal History'.
This information
will be provided under Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998.
For those
who are no longer resident in the UK but still need Criminal Record
information for application for a US visa, they should apply as
above in writing to the police station nearest to their last UK
residence.
There will
be a charge for this service which, under the Data Protection Act
1998, must be 'reasonable'. Applicants should be aware that the
process is likely to take 6 weeks +.
